Rupee strengthens against dollar

Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Friday strengthened for the third consecutive sessions against the US dollar in the opening trade. The rupee opened at 64.56 a dollar. The rupee was trading at 64.55, up 0.12% from its Thursday’s close of 64.62.

Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Tuesday was trading little changed against the US dollar in mid day trading sessions. At 2pm, the rupee was trading at 64.08 a dollar, down 0.02% from its Monday’s close of 64.06. The rupee opened at 64.06 a dollar.

Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Tuesday weakened against the US dollar, tracking the losses in Asian currencies markets pushing the currency to its biggest loss for the calendar year. Rupee closed at 64.63 a dollar, down 0.50% from its Monday’s close of 64.31. The rupee opened at 64.42 a dollar and touched a high and a low of 64.42 and 64.70, respectively.

Rupee recovers 7 paise against US dollar

Mumbai: The rupee recovered 7 paise to 66.95 against the US dollar in early session today on fresh selling of the American currency by exporters and banks. Besides, foreign fund inflows supported the rupee, but a lower opening of the domestic equity market and the dollar’s strength against other currencies overseas capped the gain, forex dealers said. Yesterday, the rupee had dropped by 14 paise to close at 67.02 on continued demand for the dollar coupled with its growing strength overseas. Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex fell 38.20 points, or 0.13 per cent, to 28,313.42 in early trade.

Rupee ends weak by 4 paise against USD

The Rupee fell today by four paise to close negative at 67.88 versus the US Dollar on rising demand for US Dollars by bankers and importers, dealers of Forex Market said. Though the local unit rose by 4 paise to 67.81 in opening trade. Later, it declined and settled at 67.88, sliding by four paise as compared to its last close.Strong dollar kept the indian currency down, dealer said.It registered days high and low at 67.79 and 67.91 respectively, they added.

Mumbai: The rupee opened at 67.37 a dollar and touched a high and a low of 67.19 and 67.38, respectively. It closed higher in 10 out of 11 trading sessions. At 2.35pm, the rupee was trading at 67.36, up 0.08% from its previous close of 67.41.

Mumbai: The Indian rupee closed at a twelve-week high against the US dollar as foreign inflows returned to India in the wake of better earnings and the return of risk appetite. Traders are cautious ahead of the US jobs data due later on Friday. This was the eight consecutive sessions when the rupee closed higher. The home currency closed at 67.32—a level last seen on 11 November 2016, up 0.1% from its previous close of 67.38. The local currency opened at 67.34 a dollar and touched a low of 67.29 — a level last seen on 11 November 2016.

Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Monday strengthened against the US dollar tracking the gains in the Asian currencies markets. The home currency opened at 68.06 against the US dollar. At 2 pm, rupee was trading at 68.12 per US dollar—up 0.08% from its previous close of 68.18 on Friday. So far this year, it has fallen 0.30%.

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, 2016: Co-operative banks cannot take deposits under PMGKY

The government has barred co-operative banks from accepting deposits under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, 2016. This comes in the backdrop of the Income Tax department finding that a number of such banks were suspected of converting black money into white, during the demonetisation drive from November 8 to December 30. “Application for the deposit in the form of Bonds Ledger Account shall be received by any banking company, other than Co-operative Banks, to which the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (10 of 1949) applies,” the finance ministry said in a statement on Friday, while amending the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Deposit Scheme (PMGKDS), 2016 which was notified by the RBI on December 16. Under the scheme, taxpayers have to deposit 25 per cent of the declared amount as interest-free

Rupee down by 13 paise against US Dollar

The Rupee slipped today by thirteen paise at 68.07 on rising demand for US Dollars by banks and importers, traders at interbank Foreign Exchange said. Though, the local unit that rose by four paise to 67.90 in opening trade, later it was slipped by 13 paise to end negative at 68.07 as compared to its last close. Strong Dollar against some currencies overseas dragged the indian currency. The domestic unit registered day high and low at 67.85 and 68.10 respectively, they added.

Mumbai: Paring its early gains, the rupee slipped by 2 paise to trade at 67.84 against the US currency in late morning deals following bouts of fresh month-end dollar demand from banks and importers. The rupee opened flat at 67.82 per dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) Market. The domestic unit hovered between 67.85 and 67.79 per dollar during morning deals before trading at 66.84 per dollar at 1030 hrs.

The rupee closed at 68.04 per US dollar a level last seen on 5 December, down 0.24% from its previous close of 67.88.
