Eiffel Tower to get bulletproof glass wall armor for protection from terrorists
Paris: Eiffel Tower is the symbol for love worldwide. It is the attraction point for all. Rather the tourist attraction point of Paris is Eiffel Tower. Also it stands one of the most favorite destinations across the globe. Due to terror threat Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo announced of building a high-bulletproof transparent wall to improve security.
On Thursday the Mayor of Paris spoke about the project which will have the permanent 2.5-meter-high bullet-proof transparent wall. The project costs around €300 million which aims to improve security and enhance the reception and comfort of the more than six million visitors that make the Eiffel Tower the most visited monument in the world.
Officials said that the purpose of the wall is to deter attacks. Earlier the tower was surrounded by the metal fencing, now if this project gets approval the glass wall will replace the metal fencing. Assistant for Mayor Jean Francois Martins said that “the terror threat remains high in Paris and the most vulnerable sites, led by the Eiffel Tower, must be the object of special security measures. We have three aims – to improve the look, make access easier and strengthen the protection of visitors and staff.”
We will replace the metal grids to the north and south with glass panels which will allow Parisians and visitors a very pleasant view of the monument, he added. Before going on floor the project should get the approval from the city commission and then environment ministry. The plan would include better elevators, stronger security, refurbished lights and an improved visitor entrance.
“Sadly, the risk of terrorism hasn’t gone away,” François Martins said at a Paris press conference. “It’s not a wall, it’s an aesthetic perimeter.”Martins said he didn’t think the sight of yet another security measure in Paris, where fully armed soldiers on patrol has become a common sight will deter tourists. “What scares tourists is lack of security, not security,” he said. The new structure will be the most visible and permanent change to the Paris landscape in response to terrorists.
