New Delhi: Congress star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi’s husband Robert Vadra has hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party for naming ‘sexist’ MP Vinay Katiyar as one of its star campaigners for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Vadra tweeted, “Really shocks me to see a name in star campaigner list with tainted past and who completely disrespects women with his comments. God save us.”

Earlier last month, Katiyar had courted controversy after he said that Priyanka Gandhi was ‘not that beautiful and the Bharatiya Janata Party had more beautiful women in the party who could campaign and pull bigger crowds.’

“Priyanka Gandhi jaise bahot si kalakaar hain, heroine hain, jo iss tarah ka abhiyan chala sakti hain, party chala sakti hain. Hamare paas bahot hain, unko khada kar denge. Kaafi dino se nikli nahi hain, nikle gi toh (There are many artists and heroines like Priyanka Gandhi who can run such campaigns and parties. We (BJP) has many such women. Let them come out. At least they will come out of their homes),” Katiyar had said.

He had also said, “Priyanka Gandhi khoobsoorat bhi nahi hain, unse bhi khoobsoorat mahila ayein hain hamare paas. Jitna log kehte hain, prachar karte hain, utni bhi sundar nahi hain Priyanka Gandhi, BJP mein koi kami hai kya? (Priyanka Gandhi is not that beautiful, we have prettier women and leaders in BJP. She is not that beautiful as people claim her to be).”

Katiyar had also take a jibe at Congress President Sonia Gandhi saying that she was a foreigner and that Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were the children of a foreign woman.

Priyanka Gandhi had hit back and slammed Vinay Katiyar saying that the sexist comment made on her showed nothing but the mindset of BJP towards Indian women. She had said that BJP does have prettier campaigners.

Vadra, too, had said that the sexist and shameful mindset of Katiyar was exposed due to his comments on Priyanka Gandhi. Vadra had said that Katiyar must apologise for the comments he made earlier this morning. Vadra also asked Katiyar to stop objectifying women.
