Man attacks Hijab-clad Muslim airline employee at JFK, shouts Donald Trump will get rid of you all
Massachusetts: An American man racially attacked a Hijab-clad Muslim airline employee at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport allegedly kicking and shouting obscenities at the Muslim woman. He also shouted that President Donald Trump will get rid of them all the Muslims in the United States, as per the airport authorities. “Trump is here now, he will get rid of all of you”, he said, reported the officials.
“Islam, ISIS, Donald Trump is here now. He will get rid of all of you. You can ask Germany, Belgium and France about these kinds of people. You will see what happens,” he shouted at the Hijab-clad employee.
The accused, Robin Rhodes, aged 57, of Worchester, approached Delta employee Rabeeya Khan while she was sitting in her office in the Delta Sky Lounge of the John F Kennedy International Airport and attacked her. As per the reports by Queens District Attorney’s Office, Rhodes had arrived from Aruba and was awaiting a connecting flight to Massachusetts.
“Are you sleeping? Are you praying? What are you doing?” Rhodes allegedly asked Khan before punching the door, which hit the back her chair. When Khan asked Rhodes what does he want and what she did to him, he apparently replied, “You did nothing but I am going to kick your a**.” He then kicked Rabeeya Khan in her right leg and when she tried to get away from him, he blocked her from leaving.
As per the reports, when other people tried to calm him, he moved away and followed Khan who had ran to the front desk in an attempt to get away from him. Rhodes reached up to her and impersonated the Muslim prayer position and shouted, “Islam, ISIS, Donald Trump is here now. He will get rid of all of you.”
As reported, Khan suffered pain and redness in her right leg and was left in fear following the incident.
“I guess I am going to jail for disorderly conduct. I couldn’t tell if it was a man or woman because their back was to me and they had something covering their head,” said Rhodes to the police when he was asked about his alleged attack on the Muslim woman.
Rhodes was charged with assault, unlawful imprisonment, menacing and harassment as hate crimes, among other counts. If proved guilty, Rhodes could face up to four years in prison for allegedly harassing and attacking another person on the grounds of race. “What happened in this incident is totally unacceptable and Delta has and will continue to fully cooperate with authorities in this investigation,” said Delta.
“The bigotry and hatred that the defendant is accused of manifesting and acting upon have no place in a civilized society – especially in Queens County, the most culturally diverse county in the nation,” said Richard A. Brown, Queens District Attorney. “Crimes of hate will never be tolerated here and when they do, regrettably occur, those responsible will be brought to justice,” said the press release.
