New Delhi: As the Congress party has officially announced an alliance with rival Samajwadi Party for 1017 Uttar Pradesh election, Chief Ministerial candidate Sheila Dikshit from Congress is likely to step down to field current UP CM Akhilesh Yadav.

“The Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance will form the next government in Uttar Pradesh,” senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad told the media in Delhi, a day after the Election Commission allotted the cycle symbol to the Akhilesh faction.

The speculations about the Congress-Akhilesh alliance were surrounding media much before the separation with patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Nabi Azad further said the nitty-gritty of the alliance, particularly seat sharing, was being worked out, as told.

However, he refused to comment if a grand-alliance similar to Bihar-Grand alliance will be formed.

“On that (Grand Alliance) I cannot say anything right now. Will talk about that later,” he said.

“There has been speculation on whether or not this alliance is happening or not. This is to confirm that it is happening,” he said.
