After Sushma’s warning, Amazon drops Indian flag doormats

New Delhi: Amazon has removed the doormats, featuring the Indian flag, from its Canadian website after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj took strong exception of the move.

A spokesman for Amazon based at its headquarters in Seattle told The Washington Post that the doormat was no longer for sale on its website.

In a tweet, Swaraj had yesterday asked Amazon to tender an unconditional apology and withdraw all products insulting the national flag immediately.

She had said, if the company does not comply, India will not grant visa to any Amazon official and also rescind the visas issued earlier.

Amazon’s Canada portal sells doormats resembling national flags. However, any desecration of Indian flag is punishable, under law, with fine and imprisonment.
