In 2017, Internet will shut down for 24 hours and financial markets will tank, claims US tech security vendor
New Delhi: United States technology security vendor LogRhythm has said that the computer users across the world may be blocked from the Internet because the world wide network will shut down for 24 hours in 2017. The US security vendor had predicted this in December 2016.
According to a report published in RT.com, the US firm’s top official has said that the internet issue will not be like any technical error.
“We’re going to see it hit big sometime, somewhere in 2017. If the internet goes down, financial markets will tank,” RT.com quoted company’s chief information security officer and vice president James Carder as telling Business Insider.
“There were signs in 2016 about with hackers “testing missiles by shooting them into the ocean,” the website quoted Carder as saying.
Earlier in October last year, major sites like Twitter, SoundCloud, Spotify, Shopify and a huge swath of other websites were down for many users due to a sweeping outage of DNS provider Dyn, as a result of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack.
Major cyber attack causes havoc on Internet: Twitter, Spotify among big websites to suffer outages due to DDOS attack.
It was a possible DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack against DynDNS that caused major issues on Internet, and many major websites across the world are reportedly unavailable in October, 2016.
“We saw the massive DDoS attack against DynDNS just a couple of months ago. We saw a similar DDoS hit Brian Krebs before the attack against Dyn. These were really just tests,” claimed Carder in the report published in RT.com.
What is DNS
The Domain Name System (DNS) is a tool used to resolve human-readable web addresses against IP addresses.
What is DDOS attack
A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack occurs when multiple systems flood the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system, usually one or more web servers. Such an attack is often the result of multiple compromised systems flooding the targeted system with traffic.
A denial of service (DoS) attack is a malicious attempt to make a server or a network resource unavailable to users, usually by temporarily interrupting or suspending the services of a host connected to the Internet.
