Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat will not appear before CBI today in the sting CD case. Mr Rawat has communicated to the agency that he will not be able to appear before it today. Mr Rawat was summoned by CBI in connection with a probe into allegations of bribe against him.

The CBI had registered the preliminary enquiry on 29th April this year to probe a sting operation that purportedly showed Mr Rawat offering bribes to rebel Congress MLAs to support him during the floor test.

The agency had summoned Mr Rawat for examination on 9th May, but he had sought more time. The case was handed over to the CBI when President’s Rule was imposed in the state.

The notification was withdrawn immediately after Mr Rawat proved his majority in the assembly and his government was restored. The Uttarakhand High Court had earlier set aside the chief minister’s plea seeking stay on CBI summons.
