Bengaluru: Speaking at a programme organised to mark the Communal Harmony Day by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Digvijay Singh, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Karnataka on Monday said that the “PM Narendra Modi is trying to divide Hindus and Muslims.”

“Systematic efforts are being made to create distrust about Muslims. Fundamentalism, irrespective of religion, is detrimental to society,” he added.

He further commented “Those who killed Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi are not Muslims. The first war of independence against the British in 1857 failed due to lack of unity between Hindus and Muslims. Friendship between Ashfaqulla Khan and Ram Prasad Bismil, freedom fighters, should be the role model,”

CM Siddaramaiah on the occasion said “The BJP is trying to mislead people. Communal forces are trying to spread their tentacles. Youths should be careful about it. Though the JD(S) claims to be a secular party, it does not hesitate to join hands with the BJP for the sake of power.”
