BS Yeddyurappa, family members acquitted in Rs 40 crore Bellary mining scam

Bengaluru: A special CBI court in Bengaluru on Wednesday acquitted Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa in the Rs 40 crore bribery and corruption case.

Yeddyurappa’s family members who were also accused in the Bellary mining scam has been acquitted. Following corruption charges, Yeddyurappa was forced to resign as Karnataka’s first BJP chief minister on July 31, 2011.

The minister was accused in the multi-crore Bellary bribery scam for alleged favours to a JSW Steel affiliate to mine iron ore. Accused in the case included Yeddyurappa, his two sons, a son-in-law, steel major JSW Steel and four Bellary-based JSW Steel affiliates. They have now been cleared of criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and corruption charges.
