New Delhi: In more political fireworks ahead of Dussehra, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today backed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s controversial ‘khoon ki dalali’ barb against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the wake of India’s surgical strikes against Pakistani terrorists last month.

“I don’t know about the Congress, but I have cordial relations with Rahul ji. If he said something like that, there must be a reason behind it,” Akhilesh told reporters in Lucknow while launching a free smartphone scheme ahead of the crucial Assembly election due early next year.

At a rally at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar last week, Rahul had launched a blistering attack on the BJP for trying to take political advantage of the Army’s surgical strikes and accused Modi of “hiding behind the blood of soldiers”.

“Jinhone Hindustan ke liye surgical strike kiye hain, unke khoon ke peeche aap chhupe hain. Unki aap dalali kar rahe ho. Yeh bilkul ghalat hai. (You are hiding behind the blood of soldiers, who carried out the surgical strikes for India. You are exploiting their sacrifices, which is just wrong},” Rahul had said.
