New Delhi: A 25-year-old man named Parvez Kumar Rai today hurled a shoe at the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at a function in Bakhtiyarpur (Patna).

However, the shoe didn’t reach the stage from where Nitish was addressing the gathering.

Kumar was attending a programme held by Freedom Fighters Association of Bihar in memory of Sheel Bhadra Yajee, a freedom fighter.

The shoe landed a few metres away from Nitish Kumar. The man was arrested by the police after the incident.

“A man attempted to throw a shoe at the chief minister at a function in Bakhtiyarpur in Patna,” a district police official said.

“This incident took place when Nitish Kumar reiterated that he was committed to implementing a total ban on liquor in the state from April 1. A man protested against it by throwing a shoe at him,” the police official added.

Bihar Chief Minister has made it clear that a total ban on liquor would be imposed in the state in phases, starting from April this year.

“Bihar would first ban country-made liquor and then foreign liquor (IMFL),” Nitish had said.

Ban on liquor sale was one of the promises Nitish Kumar made during campaigning for the 2015 Bihar assembly elections.
