Jail inmates treated to item dance on Republic Day; Three officials suspended

Vijaypur: The Director General of Prison(DG) K Satyanarayana on Thursday suspended three officials of the prison after an embarrassing video of an item-dance performance in Karnataka’s Vijayapura Jail surfaced on Republic Day which left the prison authorities absolutely in a spot of bother.

The event, was reportedly organised by the jail authorities for the 38 inmates who are being released for good conduct. The program reportedly got held ahead of the formal function in which the district minister and other highly placed officials is alleged to have participated. In the video, a girl can seen wearing  revealing clothes and seen dancing to Bollywood tracks with a few inmates showering her with money. Prison authorities allegedly  reported to have arranged two dance girls from Mumbai to reward the prisoners for their good behaviour.

A senior official of the jail said they were busy with the day’s activities and responsibilities and so are unaware of exactly what happened there. “We were busy with all the arrangements we had to do as the minister was expected. We have no idea how the two women entered the jail,” he said.

I have seen the video. I am on my way to Vijayapura. I have already sent a senior officer from Belagavi to take stock of the situation,”  The DGP is expected to visit the jail on Thursday. DGP (prisons) Sathyanarayana Rao, told the Bangalore mirror. 

An investigation, was convened and headed by Belgaum Inspector General of Police into the entry of the girls into such a high security Jail complex. Further details related to the incident is still being investigated.
