New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Thursday rejected allegations of helping former IPL chief Lalit Modi in obtaining travel papers in United Kingdom.

In a suo motu statement in the Lok Sabha, she said, “It is unfortunate that my closest friends in Opposition are levelling charges against me. These are my bad days. I am sure, they will be over soon.”

“I challenge anyone to show a document, letter or email recommending Lalit Modi’s case to British government.”

“Lalit Modi’s wife is suffering from Cancer since last 17 years, she was getting treated in research centre in Portugal. She has been diagnosed with Cancer for 10th time, doctors said this time her cancer is life threatening. Hospital said that her treatment is life threatening and her husband must be present. That was the background of ‘humanitarian grounds’,” she said.

“If helping a woman cancer patient is a crime, then I admit having committed this crime and am ready to face any
punishment from this House for it,” she added.
