Rains lash RAK, motorists warned to be cautious
Ras Al Khaimah: As moderate to heavy rains lashed different parts of Ras Al Khaimah on Sunday, the police here have urged motorists to be cautious while driving due to the unstable weather.
According to a senior police officer, speeding and reckless driving is “very dangerous” on wet and slippery roads and may lead to serious traffic accidents and casualties.
Colonel Ahmed Abdurrahman Al Bagham, Acting Director-General of Central Operations Room, RAK Police, said more traffic patrols have been deployed on the highways and internal roads of the emirate to assist motorists. “The visibility on the roads of the emirate is low due to dense fog and rains, particularly in the late and early hours of the day.”
All motorists need to reduce speed, leave adequate space between vehicles and avoid overtaking, he advised. “Drivers are advised to avoid mountainous areas; stay away from the valleys where rainwater accumulates; and not go fishing, swimming or surfing in the rough sea.”
