New Delhi: Delhi will go to the polls on February 7 and the counting of votes will take place February 10, the Election Commission announced today.

Date of counting: February 10

Date of polls: February 7

Date of Notification for Delhi polls : January 14

The Chief Election Commissioner is holding a press conference, regarding Delhi assembly elections. EC is set to announce dates for polls shortly.

Major political parties in Delhi have already started preparing for the assembly polls.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ascending to power in 3 states riding high on ‘Modi wave’, Delhi is all set to witness the poll blitzkrieg with Narendra Modi and newly elected Chief Ministers taking the centrestage at the hustings.

BJP had emerged as the single largest party in the December 2013 Assembly polls winning 31 seats but fell four seats short of a simple majority. It had refused to form government then, saying it will not resort to any “unfair means” to take over the reins.

AAP had formed the government in Delhi with the support of Congress. The government led by Arvind Kejriwal had resigned on February 14 after the party’s pet project, the Jan Lokpal Bill, could not be passed due to opposition from BJP and Congress.
