Dubai: The creative works of some of the world’s finest artisan weavers will greet visitors at the 20th edition of the Carpet and Art Oasis. Vivid designs and intricate hand-woven portraits hang from wall to wall inside a large tent at Dubai Festival City, reminding one of a kaleidoscope of world cultures.

Some of the works date back to several centuries — with traders displaying their wares proudly. Costing from a few hundred dirhams to millions of dollars, each carpet is unique in make.

Speaking with Khaleej Times, Laila Mohammed Suhail, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), said, “Carpet prices vary by the degree of craftsmanship and complexity of designs. This year, we have 42 participants exhibiting in the Carpet and Art Oasis and shoppers can buy unique carpets from Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.”

More than two-and-a-half million carpets have been exhibited thus far. This edition of the Oasis features 58 stands with 42 companies displaying 220,000 carpets valued at Dh2 billion.
