Andhra Pradesh Assembly rejects Bill to create Telangana

Hyderabad Jan 30: In an embarrassment to the Congress-led Central government, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Thursday rejected the bill to create a separate Telangana state.

The bill was rejected by the Andhra Pradesh Assembly by a voice vote. The deadline for the Assembly to pass or reject the bill and send its opinion to the President was due to expire today.

The Assembly Speaker held voting on the resolution moved by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy which sought to reject the Telangana Bill. The Assembly passed the resolution by a voice vote.

The move has come as an embarrassment to the Congress because the party had piloted the bill to create a separate Telangana state carved out of Andhra Prades
