Youth surrenders in Tanishq heist case

Hyderabad Jan 27 : A youngster, Kiran Kumar from Guntur, walked into a Telugu TV news channel office in Hyderabad late on Sunday night claiming that he had committed the sensational Rs.5.97 crore gold heist from Tanishq showroom at Punjagutta two days ago.

The TV channel immediately contacted West zone DCP V. Satyanarayana and handed him over. The police took the youth to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

Taken aback by the claims of Kiran Kumar, the West zone police took him into custody and reportedly recovered the stolen jewellery from his house in Punjagutta.

Sources however, said, the investigators suspected Kumar’s claims and were quiestionin g him to ascertain if anyone else is involved in the offence.

Kumar took the police team to his room in Rasoolpura neighbourhood, where the stolen gold was reportedly found. Police were questioning Kumar and his two roommates, hailing from Guntur district.The unemployed Kumar reportedly told the TV channel that he alone committed the theft to create a sensation and to draw people’s attention.

He said he had drilled the hole in the rear wall of the shop located in the busy Punjagutta area in the heart of the city. He entered through the hole and broke open the locked table counters and looted the gold ornaments and stones.
